Q: Are the NE-Series Model-/Sound-Sets compatible to the Neuron VS?
A: Yes, but Neuron Keyboard users get slightly more out of them. While you can load and make good use of the Models and Sounds on the VS, some functionality programmed into the Sounds won't work on the VS and/or you may experience some erratic behaviour (like random pitch jitter etc), mainly due to bugs and missing features in the VS code.
Q: What differences are there between using the NE-series on a Neuron and on the VS in particular?
A: The main differences are:
a) The NE-series makes heavy use of the Neuron's assignable realtime controllers, which allow 4 destinations per control where the VS allows only 1 (and doesn't even read that one from the Neuron Sound loaded). So VS users do not get assigned realtime controls. This is by design and can be thought of as an "extra" for Neuron Keyboard users and not "something missing" for VS users.
b) The VS does not have the Master FX section of the Neuron, so you'll not get the Reverb and Delay Programmed into the Sounds, but this should be easy enough to compensate for using third-party hardware or plugins.
c) Due to the fact that stick-animation is not played back by the VS (a missing feature), some Sounds will not be as complex as when played on the Neuron Keyboard. They will, however, still sound cooool (and the majority of Sounds doesn't make use of stick-animation, or only very subtly).
d) The synthesis engine of the VS works slightly differently than that of the Neuron Keyboard, so some Sounds may sound a little different. This will in most cases only be apparent when A/B-ing Keyboard and VS.
e) The synthesis engine of the VS exhibits a couple of weird bugs that may, for instance, introduce random detuning on loop wraparound with some models. This is not a limitation of our libraries, it is a limitaion of the VS software.
Q: How do install an NE-Series set on my Neuron Keyboard/VS?
A: This is covered in detail in the manual included on every NE-Series release as well as in the "manuals"-section of our website (you may also want to read the manual that came with your Neuron Keyboard/VS and/or our FAQ-section, too)
Q: What additional stuff do i need to use NE-series sets?
A: For use with the Neuron Keyboard you'll need an ftp-client, a compatible ethernet<>USB adapter and either a network patch-cord or a network crosslink cable (and, of course, a DVD-drive as well as a Neuron Keyboard :-) ). For use with the VS you will need nothing except a DVD-drive and the VS. For more details please refer to the NE-series manual. Please note that it is very important to use one of the adapters recommended by Hartmann Music, even if they may be hard to get hold of; other adapters may not work with the Neuron.
Q: Which Sound- and Model-numbers do you use?
A: The first set uses #000 to #099 for both Models and Sounds, subsequent releases will continue on from #099. This overwrites (part of) the factory content, so make sure to backup anything you want to keep before installing our stuff.
Q: Why would you overwrite factory content and not add to it?
A: The number of Models and Sounds the Neuron/VS can hold are limited, and Models are referenced to by number, not by name. As most users will probably have bought their Neuron Keyboard/VS because of it's huge potential in creating new, unique sounds, we figured that it is very likely that these users will have created their own Models and Sounds and appended them to the factory stuff. So installing additional content would either overwrite user content (if we chose to append our content to the factory Models/Sounds) or factory content (leaving user Models intact); we chose the latter :-) |
